Cincinnati Adventure: Baseball and City Fun

Hello! It’s Mo here.

I had a great experience with my Work and Travel program in 2023, so I wanted to share it with you.

Cincinnati, Ohio, was my destination for the second year of my Work and Travel Program, and it was a completely different but equally memorable experience compared to Traverse City. I worked at the Great American Ball Park, where the Reds baseball team plays, with support from Intrax. My job was in concessions at an ice cream stand, which was a lot of fun. I enjoyed serving fans during baseball games and got to work extra hours in the kitchen, which helped me earn more money and meet other students doing the same.

The housing provided initially had some issues. It was far from work, in a neighborhood that wasn’t great, and we had problems with water and no laundry facilities. So, I moved with friends to another J-1 housing in Newport. This new place was fantastic! It was near Newport Levee, where there were shops I could walk to. The owners were nice and organized events like dinners and international food days that brought together students from different countries and cultures. This change made my experience much more enjoyable and comfortable.

Cincinnati is a big city famous for its vibrant downtown and lots of famous things to do. I made friends from all over the country and the world. Exploring the city and trying different foods with my new friends were some of the best parts of my time there.

Overall, my second summer in the Work and Travel Program was amazing. Cincinnati gave me a different view and helped me learn more about American culture. I hope to visit again someday!

Here are some photos from my time in Cincinnati:

I definitely recommend this experience to anyone thinking about the Work and Travel Program.
